Resetting your password
Choose Forgot password on the sign-in screen and give the email address on your account. We email you a six-digit code. Enter that code on the reset screen and choose a new password.
It is a code rather than a link, so you can start on one device and finish on another.
What to expect
- The code expires after an hour. After that, ask for a new one.
- It works once.
- Asking for a new code cancels the previous one, so use the most recent email if several have arrived.
- Requesting a reset changes nothing on its own. Your existing password keeps working until you actually set a new one.
- You can ask five times in fifteen minutes before being asked to wait.
Choosing the new password
At least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a digit.
You will be signed out everywhere
Setting a new password ends your sessions on every device, including the app — within about fifteen minutes, as each one next checks in. That is deliberate: if someone else had got into the account, this is what removes them.
If the email does not arrive
Four things account for almost all of it:
- The spam folder. Look there before anything else.
- A different address. The email only goes to an address that has an account, so if nothing arrives you may have registered with another one.
- You signed in with Google or Apple. An account created that way has no password on our side, so there is nothing to reset and no email is sent — the screen looks the same either way. Use the same button you used originally. If you would rather have a password too, set one from Profile → Change Password.
- You were invited and never set a password. A reset code cannot reach an account that has never had one. Use your invitation link instead — see claiming an invitation.
